Matt finally comes aboard the Hancock

FIRST LIBERTY

Finally, assigned to the USS HANCOCK. Got checked in today, assigned to the Guided Missile Division, given liberty the first day and here you are, standing in the hanger bay waiting for liberty call to be sounded and 2, 000 sailors are in front of you because R.H.I.P. (Rank has it's privileges).

1600 HOURS - NOW HEAR THIS. LIBERTY CALL, LIBERTY CALL. LIBERTY COMMENCES FOR SECTIONS ONE, TWO, AND THREE TO EXPIRE ON BOARD AT O700 HOURS.

Finally, the line will start to move. Since I'm only an E-2 I get the privilege of standing in the back of the line behind all the E-6's, E-5's and E-4's. Let's see, yes, I have my liberty card, I'm in my dress blues and I'm watching all these sailors depart the ship. Since I've never done this before, I wonder if there is anything that I have to know or do to get off the ship? Guess I'll just watch and do what the guy in front of me does. Let's see, you stand in front of the JOOD, hold your I.D. and liberty card in your left hand and salute with your right hand. Seems pretty simple. Finally, a Fleet Sailor, going on his first liberty. Going to go into town and have a couple of cold one's with my new shipmates. Nice of them to buy, since I still haven't been paid but, when I get my back pay, it'll be my turn.
