MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION

Ah, here it is, July, 1974 and we are finally coming home from a Med Cruise on the USS America (CV-66). Standing here in the hangar bay, waiting for the ship to pull in.

(Why, there is an old Hancock sailor. Man, look at those hash marks...all gold...all the way up his sleeve....Wow..he must have 30+ years in.)

"Hey Senior Chief, how you doing?

"I haven't seen you since we were stationed together on the Hancock, back in 1969.

"Uh, Senior Chief, I noticed that you have the
Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, when did you get that?

"On the Hancock..."

"Huh?

I hate to tell you Senior Chief, but we were awarded that ribbon on the cruise before you came aboard... Oh yea, ok then, what did the Hancock do to earn that award?

"Kamikaze's !!!!! Hitting the flight deck !!!!"

(Geezee, will I ever learn? Kamikaze's crashing on the flight deck. He was earning medals before I was born. And now he's laughing at me!!)

"Uh, have a good day Senior Chief"

Hope this adds to your great site. I noticed that you added
pictures to my sea story of the bomb coming off an aircraft during launch. Brought back old memories. Thanks for all your hard work.
