Who can run away from phantoms that never leave us be?
Memories are often fraught with Pain and misery...
Some call it Post Traumatic Stress, and others call it craziness.
I know for I have walked the walk, where sleep is wrought with restlessness.
The War was a nightmare then, and it continues with so many
You cannot hide in restless sleep, you can't even run away.
There's no place for us to hide, or safe haven for us to abide,
Memories are often wrought with fear, where seldom is found any joy or cheer.
They said the war was fought in vain, but even more, to us,
Drugs, few of us abused, yet "addicts", all of us, have been accused,
Baby killers, rapists, murderers, we Vets have heard each profane verse,
Stone faced, and robbed of youth, nothing else could hurt us worse
Was it so hard for a Nation, war weary, to have some gratitude?
No Welcome home, no grateful Nation, excepting words so crude?
No jobs, our girlfriends abandoned us, we had no home it seemed..
What happened to our Country, the one for which we dreamed?
Does anyone remember? Can anyone really recall?
Youthful patriots who didn't run, who heeded the Nation's Call?
In the beginning, we believed; perhaps even ignorantly perceived
In that Greater Cause of Duty to God and country, we innocently believed.
A Greater Cause was here at work: The Veteran's cause was
We knew we had to fight for Right, and if to die, we must..
"'Tis better to die for Freedom, than to live in tyranny,"
There is no pleasure in living, without Freedom and Democracy!
Many years I have sat and pondered; even in restless dreams,
I 've wandered,
Was it worth the noble cost with these precious lives now lost?
An answer always comes to me, I m sure all Vets with me agree..
The cost of Freedom is very high; for us, this cost will always be.
Let no one dare to take from us, our Freedom and our Rights,
God help the nation who would think of putting us in their sights,
For a Sleeping Giant continues in his slumber, restlessly,
Let no nation dare threaten us, our Rights, our Liberty!
Let no one dare from us to take, the freedom of our Country's
I know it's true, the cost is high, the blood and sweat; the lives we take,
It's for that Noble Cause, for which some fail to see,
Though some accuse, they also know the Price of Liberty.
It's time to take back the pride we lost so many years ago,
The remorse and guilt, disgrace and shame, it surely from us must go,
The shame and repugnance we felt inside, this too, we must forget,
For those who died, we can never live, if our minds are so filled with regret.
God has saved America, let none of us ever doubt!
You can t enjoy the freedoms you have, if you never let Patriotism out!
Stand tall, be Thankful, and forever cast guilt and shame aside,
For Liberty was certainly worth it all, to those who fought and died!
Yes, God has Saved America, doubt not these words so true..
You can't live well if you forget the price paid for me and for you.
America is Free, and so we must, in reverence and Honor, give heed..
To those who fought, and to those who died for our Nation; our Flag and our Creed..
I pledge allegiance to the Flag,
Of the United States of America,
And to the Republic for which it stands,
One Nation, under God, Indivisible,
With Liberty, and Justice for All!

These Poems are also a Tribute to our Allies who fought beside us. Never let it be forgotten that they were our Brothers-in-Arms and that they struggled alongside us and that their sacrifices were for the common good of all.
